“Life is a rush into the unknown. You can duck down and hope nothing hits you, or stand up tall as you can, show it your teeth and say “Dish it up baby, and don't be stingy with the jalapenos.” - Fireman's Fund Ad |
War and Soul HealingWhat does it really take to heal the particular wounds that come from the experience of war? War healing can be accomplished if we take that healing on as a spiritual journey that will have shamanism, initiatory ordeals, and the resolution of the experience of combat along that path. If we understand PTSD as incomplete, interrupted initiation, we can help the veterans complete their initiatory experience, heal, and return to the community as mature warriors.
We are failing our veterans as care providers and communities AND we don’t have to. In this experiential class we will explore the essential steps that can make healing from the unique wounding of war a healing journey. Key to this is understanding PTSD as incomplete, interrupted initiation and how veterans, their healers and the community can support the completion of that initiatory experience. Our goal is to understand—as veterans and the community they return to—the qualities of a mature warriors and what we each must sacrifice to create them.
Veterans, their family members, and care providers are welcome. Those who know how to journey should come prepared to do so. |
